Education Initiatives

We believe that our industry will be shaped tomorrow by the bright students we support in our communities today. ExxonMobil Pipeline Company encourages learning through programs including STEM camps, scholarships, environmental conservation and more.

Since 2017, ExxonMobil has taken great pride in working with the Rice University Tapia Center for Energy, Climate & Sustainability. Together, we have worked to enhance educational experiences and opportunities within communities where we operate. This collaboration underscores our commitment to empowering educators and students, particularly in the vital fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

2026 Tapia Center Algorithms and Energy STEM Camps, School Districts and Professional Development Programs

In 2026, STEM programming expansion continues. While maintaining our existing STEM camp collaborations with Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi; Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee; Rice University in Houston, Texas; and SOWELA Technical Community College in Allen Parish, Louisiana; we are also working with Ascension Parish Schools and St. Landry Parish Schools in Louisiana; and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

This year’s camps explore a wide range of STEM topics. Students will also investigate techniques to counteract the environmental impacts of data centers, build model turbines and construct carbon capture and storage (CCS) reservoirs. Additionally, they will explore how data centers and algorithms shape real-world decisions by designing a college admissions algorithm, use physics and math to identify AI-generated videos, and learn how algorithms can hide and detect secret messages in images. Through hands-on challenges and activities, students will practice public speaking skills and collaborate with fellow students to complete STEM projects. ExxonMobil representatives will be on-site at every camp, engaging directly with students by offering insights and helping bring key concepts to life.

2025 Tapia Carbon STEM Camps and Programs

In 2025, we continued to expand our STEM program across the Gulf Coast by enabling the Tapia Center's ongoing collaboration with other universities in the region. In addition to sustaining STEM camps initiated in previous years at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi; and Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; we conducted a STEM camp at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. Also in 2025, we worked with the Allen Parish School Board and SOWELA Technical Community College in Louisiana to present a week-long residential STEM professional development camp for 40 educators in Southwest Louisiana.

2024 Tapia STEM CCS Camps

In 2024, in addition to sponsoring the Tapia Center summer camps at Rice University, we began to extend the program's reach by initiating the collaboration between the Tapia Center and Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi and Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We also assisted with the first ever on-site Tapia STEM CCS Camp held directly with a school district in the U.S., in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Overall, more than 1,000 students and educators from more than 200 school districts across the Gulf Coast region learned more about carbon capture and storage.

2023 STEM Camps

More than 500 students from 55 school districts across Texas and Louisiana participated in the 2023 Tapia Center STEM camps hosted by Rice and Southern Universities. Students presented on what carbon dioxide is and where it comes from, why Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is important, and how carbon dioxide can be stored in underground reservoirs.
